In these pandemic times, the virtual world has taken over our lives for both better and worse. Everything we could need is at our fingertips, yet that is not necessarily everything we want, and many people are beginning to feel overwhelmed by life online. First, I must state that I am incredibly lucky and privilegedContinueContinue reading “Logging Off”

Let’s talk about sex
Is our fear of sex as a conversation having a detrimental impact on the youth of today? It is time we grabbed this topic by the balls and took back our global mental health. We should not be ashamed of giving ourselves a good time. Our bodies release pleasure hormones when we have sex and masturbate so why are not making the most of this?
Psychologically Speaking
When I hear someone (without a PhD in psychology) say ‘well psychologically speaking…’ I know they haven’t got a clue what psychology is. This doesn’t mean that the second half of their sentence is wrong; it just loses impact. Anyway, that hasn’t got anything to do with today’s blog; it is just a pet peeve (you’re welcome!). Seeing as I have spent the last 5.5 years studying human behaviour, I thought I would share with you what I love and why I want to go into academic psychology in the future.
Do you believe in life after love?
I will be spending my valentines single for the first time in four years. Hold the pity. I have never been more excited. Why? Because instead of worrying whether I had bought the right present, made enough effort and still look ok in my lingerie I purchased six months before the mad dominos binge began, I can spend the day, nay, the month dedicated to loving myself!
Say that to my face
Has me writing about this pandemic gotten old yet? Thought so. Is that going to stop me? No. After another day of meetings via Google Hangouts, classes on Blackboard Collaborate and counselling on zoom I am sure I am not the only person craving some face-to-face interactions. Yes, I have my housemates and the occasionalContinueContinue reading “Say that to my face”
Displacement
How are you feeling? You don’t have to answer; I wouldn’t know what you have said if you did. But just mull over the question, how are YOU feeling? Not in comparison to someone else, not in relation to the current world affairs but rather right now at this moment.
New year, Old pandemic
Well 2020 was, how do I say this without profanity? 2020 was interesting. Ok let’s be real it was a clusterfuck! What the hell happened!? One minute it is all New Years excitement then BANG COVID-19, lockdown, how to make bread, who stole all the loo roll and what does the r-value mean. I wouldContinueContinue reading “New year, Old pandemic”
The end…or is it?
Sorry for the break in uploading but I, you know, FINISHED MY DEGREE! So here is the big question, now what? The world is changing at an alarming rate, and keeping on top of it all is quite the extreme sport. Graduating into this strange ‘new normal’ is challenging so; I thought I would share with you my university experiences and a couple of things I have learnt (besides Psychology) over the last three years.
Gratitude
One thing I have noticed during this lockdown is all the things I took for granted. Seeing my friends at university, going on holiday and even a trip to Sainsbury’s when I wanted a sugar kick. As such, one thing I strive to do is to have more gratitude for both the big and little things in life. Oxford Dictionary defines gratitude as ‘The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness’.
Spring Reflections
Whether you are religious, spiritual or just a human-being Easter is a great time to reflect on the year so far and how you can improve things for the future. I love the idea of rebirth and don’t think it is just applicable during New Year; every morning is an opportunity for a new start, we should be reflecting regularly so let’s use Easter as an excuse to do just that.
